Former VP of German Council of Jews was Protected by Neo-Nazi Bodyguards

The interior ministry for the state of Hesse has revealed that police have uncovered information indicating that several of the officers who protected Michel Friedman, former vice-president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, were neo-Nazis.

The connection came to light during an internal police probe regarding another matter. “This is devastating for me. One has to imagine it, how those men who were supposed to protect me from Nazis had the same mentality,” said Friedman.

According to the ministry three officers are being investigated. Friedman became vice-president of the Council in 2001 but stepped down in 2003 after being fined for possession of drugs. He now hosts a news program on television.
